Doubleknot Creative names new CEO, Melinda Torres

Doubleknot Creative was born in 2016, when two established agencies—CKA Creative and Blankslate Creative—merged. The merger brought together industry veterans Jim Carey, Mark Anderson, Dave Blank, and Melinda Torres, and as partners they grew the business into the small-but-mighty agency it is today. Doubleknot has built a reputation for bold and strategically informed creative solutions, developing brands and campaigns across multiple industries, including consumer packaged goods, B2B, hospitality, healthcare, and professional services.

At the end of 2021, Carey, Anderson, and Blank moved on from the company and handed off leadership to Melinda Torres as the sole owner and CEO. Melinda brings 25 years of client service and marketing leadership experience, and she will continue to be supported by Jim Craig as Creative Director and Zak Menkel as Director of Strategy. She assumes this new role with the enthusiastic support of her team and her former partners.

“We recognize that our world has changed, and we want to come from a place of empathy and courage.”

This transition provides a natural inflection point for the agency. “I see this as an opportunity to take all the goodness we’ve built and evolve it to reflect the way people live and work right now.” notes Torres. “We recognize that our world has changed, and we want to come from a place of empathy and courage. Our clients are facing new challenges, and they need more than design to solve them. They need divergent thinking, to help bring forward their humane purpose in the world. We have a team that is built to challenge assumptions and see beyond conventional patterns, and that’s a special thing. I want this to be a business that prizes ideas and a workplace that truly nurtures creative people.”

Doubleknot’s focus for the beginning of 2022 will be on evolving the culture and operations of the business to support a hybrid work model and expanding their capabilities to better support the complex needs of modern marketing. “Increasing our impact—not just our productivity—is how we will measure our success and how we will grow,” says Torres. “The team is aligned on the vision, grateful and committed to our clients, and energized for the journey ahead.”
