WA Water Fluoridation Initiative

The Challenge

Water fluoridation has been one of the most successful public health initiatives in history, but it still faces pushback from some populations, due largely to misinformation spread online. This lack of understanding can prevent some people from accessing fluoridated water and creates inequity the disproportionately impacts the health of rural, impoverished, and immigrant populations. Our clients at Resource Media were leading a broad campaign to promote awareness and fight misinformation around fluoridation, to help ensure all Washingtonians could benefit. We helped them develop a website and an animated video to support their outreach.

The Outcome

Our approach focused on a simple, clear presentation of information, backed by both science and credible voices within the community. The goal was to demystify fluoridation and answer key questions without barging into controversy. The design focused on bright color, bold graphics and cheerful photography to keep the focus squarely on the goal of better, more equitable healthcare for all.

  • Water Fluoridation Video

It was important to put a human face on this issue, by centering on both the overwhelming majority of experts who support fluoridation, and the people who are most impacted by access—or lack of access—to it.

Bold, approachable graphics and an animated short emphasize the scientific rigor and historic success of fluoridation, while also pointing out the impacts of inequitable access.

We worked hard to ensure that both the video and the site met the highest accessibility standards and that the content was available in multiple languages.
